So guys I'm trying to build a desktop, a relatively powerful gaming machine! What kinda parts would you recommend?

It'll definitely be an i7

Will have a Samsung 256 SSD

At least 1TB of secondary internal HDD (what brand would u recommend?)

Memory will probably be Corsair

Motherboard Recommendations?

What kinda graphics card would you recommend?

Soundcard rec?

Dvd drive rec?

Power Supply rec?

Fan?

Motherboard depends mostly on what socket you Processor is.....so be carful that your CPU socket is compatable with your motherboard.

if you are looking to go all out, buy either Nvidia 680/690 (Expensive as hell) or AMD 7970/7990 (Relatively less expensive)

no need to buy a sound card if the motherboard is of high quality.

DVD, go with super Multi sony.....get a blu ray if you want.

Power supply get one with a recognizable company logo on it, one which you can customize and is over 700 W,

Buy a good chassis, fans will com naturally.

WD HDD, non better but make sure the RPM is 7200.

My suggestions:

Stick to either Western Digital or Seagate for the 1TB SATA drive.

Corsair.. good choice :)

For the mobo, go with an MSI or ASRock. Exact model depends on what you want.

Graphics... really depends on your needs, but any decent GTX660 should do (from evga, Asus, or MSI)

Soundcard.. doesn't matter--just use HDMI out from your graphics card since it'll have 5.1/7.1 over HDMI (or the mobo)

DVD drive.. are you for real? why not throw in a floppy drive where we're at it man :P

Power supply: I like Corsair here. a 600W would do. More would be overkill unless you pick a really heavy gfx card.

Fan: really doesn't matter, just make sure the reviews are okay to avoid an overly noisy set.

BTW why are you going for i7? There is no need. Buy an i5, specifically:

Intel Core i5-3570K

^ Like the article says, i7 would be a way to future-proof the system. A friend of mine has access to an associate member program discount, I believe I can get i7 for under 200 this black friday or cyber monday.

hahah yeah I've been out of the pc gaming loop for a while now and have been wanting to get back into it. I've been meaning to build a pc for years now but haven't had time or money, now I finally have the resources to get that project going.
